Under the general supervision of the Transportation Bureau Chief, assist in the delivery of transportation planning activities; manages, organizes and coordinates assigned projects and areas of responsibilities. Performs unique analyses and studies including transportation data analytics and management; represents the department on transportation matters with other governmental agencies, community groups and transportation organizations; may also assist in the oversight of fund programming activities, including analysis, report writing and committee interaction and management; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties:
Assist in the coordination Plans and develops transportation and traffic calming projects with an emphasis on complete streets, which accommodate all roadway users including pedestrians, transit passengers, cyclists and motorists.
Assist in the management of a comprehensive transportation program and other transportation planning projects.
Interpret, apply and explains laws, rules, regulations and policies.
Makes adjustments to standard operating procedures to improve effectiveness and comply with regulatory changes as appropriate.
Develop and coordinate complex work programs, research projects and analytical studies.
Prepare and make presentations to a wide variety of audiences.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
As assigned, attends meetings with various public groups, municipal and state officials to work toward long-term solutions for transportation-related projects such as street enhancements for pedestrians, cyclists, transit passengers and motorists.
Assist with the review of bus shelter placement, rail/bus integration, shuttle-bus routing, pool programs with local companies, and other transit enhancements.
Assists with grant writing for various transportation projects.
Assist in performing traffic counts and examines efficiency of on street and off-street parking, and interrelationships with mass transit alternatives.
Assists with the preparation of clear, sound, accurate and informative transportation and other planning reports and studies containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning or a related field and two (2) years of experience in traffic engineering and/or transportation planning; or in lieu thereof, any equivalent combination of education, training and practical transportation planning experience.
