This is professional urban and transportation planning work within the Department of Transportation. The position involves the collection and analysis of a wide range of transportation and urban planning information, the preparation of transportation planning documents and visual materials, engagement with divers and multicultural community members and stakeholders impacted by planning processes. This position is expected to lead transportation initiatives that support the City’s mobility and sustainability goals. These initiatives include plans and projects supporting active transportation, transit, and intercity transportation bus and rail services.
Position Summary:
This is senior level work characterized by accountability for complex activities in the Department of Transportation necessitating leadership, initiative, judgment and discretion. This position will have ongoing responsibility for one or more planning activities, and will lead initiatives that support the City’s mobility and sustainability transportation goals. The position holder should have strong and proven project management capabilities for team-based projects and programs. Under general supervision of the Director of Transportation, work requires a high degree of independence, and typically involves leadership in program, plan, and policy development and internal process improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Studies, or related studies or programs; and
Four years of professional planning experience with leadership responsibilities and program management or project management involving teams

Master's Degree pertinent to the position may be considered as a substitution for 1 year of experience; and three(3) years of professional planning experience with leadership responsibilities and program management or project management involving teams

Four(4) years of experience in the following:
Professional planning experience with a variety of complex planning and transportation planning.
Applicable land use, community planning, transportation planning, and urban design theories, principles and practices.
Local ordinances and laws, governmental review processes, and design considerations and their application.
Project management techniques and leadership principles and practices.
With and ability to use computer software applicable to the duties of the position.
Familiarity with the following:
Land use and transportation planning process, policies, principles, practices and methodologies, including integration with land use planning and land use/travel demand relationships, accessibility and integration of different modes of transportation.
Geographic information systems
Data collection methods and analysis techniques related to socio-economic, land use, and transportation data.
Adobe Creative Suite software (InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro) or other graphics software, and Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
