Salary and Benefits
Based on position requirements and candidate experience, we expect to fill this position at a director-level (Grade 8) position with a base salary range of $124,800 to $187,500 per year. Most of our team is compensated at the lower half of job grade compensation ranges. Benefits include:

Brendle Group seeks a full-time Director of Engineering. This position serves on a 5-member management team and reports to the president of the company. Management team members are responsible for developing, leading, and being accountable to company success, growth, and delivery of high impact services. The role will fully support company purpose, mission, and strategy externally and internally, with an emphasis on instilling engineering principles and quality standards into our work. Specifically our engineering charter challenges us to use innovation and critical thinking to deliver technology-based solutions that are technically feasible, financially viable, and implementation ready for the greatest impacts toward climate goals.
With offices in Fort Collins, CO and Denver, CO, we would prefer a Colorado-based candidate to support our local and regional employees and customers. Position Responsibilities with Estimated Time Allocation
Strategy & Organizational Success (15%)
Work with president and serve on the Management Team (MT) to drive initiatives, standards, and other cross-functional efforts in support of company priorities.
Collaborate with Management Team peers to develop and implement strategic action plans, proactively anticipate, and solve organizational and cross-functional issues, implement agreed upon objectives, and fulfill other responsibilities to guide the organization to success.
Set suitable metrics and/or milestones in collaboration with MT peers for measuring progress on strategic plan objectives and targets.
Provide engineering-specific input to Brendle Group strategic plan and business development efforts.
Functional Team Management (10-15%)
Lead our Engineering functional team which is comprised of six engineers and is one of five service teams.
Provide engineering discipline-specific leadership including setting and implementing engineering technical expectations and quality standards, staying abreast of industry trends, and providing oversight of engineering-based work.
Manage the employee life cycle for engineering team members to ensure our growing consulting firm is resilient, future-proof, and in step with industry best practices and workforce needs. This includes individual and engineering team performance management.
Monitor industry trends and bring innovative ideas to the team.
Identify and oversee development of Brendle Group’s engineering tools and standards for delivering our services.
Conduct engineering skill assessments, provide professional development support, and lead targeted recruitment of engineers to grow our team’s capabilities.
Lead intentional and strategic integration of engineering services across all Brendle Group teams.
Business Development (20-25%)
Lead the organization’s impact objectives most closely tied to engineering as part of a coordinated business development program team. Responsible for developing and achieving a robust pipeline of work with annual revenue targets.
Cultivate and close business opportunities for Brendle Group through networking and client management on an ongoing basis.
Lead or oversee engineering team project managers in creating competitive proposals of the highest quality.
Project Delivery (50%)
Provide executive program and project management (EPM) oversight and support services to multi-disciplinary project teams.
Ensure project teams deliver on time and on budget to delighted customers.
Support strong client relationships to help ensure smooth navigation of the project life cycle.
Contribute to projects as a senior technical domain expert and as a senior reviewer of engineering-based services.
Develop, lead, and innovate new project approaches and deliverables to drive strategic plan impact objectives.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Engineering degree required.
11+ years professional experience with at least:
Six years in one or more sustainability or climate action fields such as energy management, renewable energy, beneficial electrification, and/or water efficiency and resilience.
Eight years in program or project management.
Eight years in business development with proven success, including quantifiable revenue outcomes, in both the public and private sector.
Four years of employee supervisory/functional management experience, including recruitment, performance management, and professional development.
Four years of general business strategy and management experience, preferably in a consulting business model.
Industry leadership and proven success in technical delivery of services.
Strong social intelligence and people skills.
Strong track record of quality customer service and maintaining strong customer relationships.
Demonstrated supervisory skills and ability to coach team members to their highest performance.
