The Public Works Director leads a team of 75 FTEs and oversees a budget of $48 million to comprehensively care for all infrastructure to the future benefit of the community. The Public Works Director is an important member of the leadership team and expected to provide strong organizational leadership to help build a culture where people are involved and enthusiastic about their work and workplace. Burnsville is looking for a strong leader who values frequent communication and manages people with accountability and is an active listener and a willing coach and advocate who builds relationships and champions the work of the people and the department.
Candidate Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public works, or related field.
Seven years of progressively responsible leadership in public works or engineering, with a minimum of five years’ experience in municipal government or private consulting experience work with local governments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A pro-active, team-oriented, and inclusive management style.

The starting salary range is $149,000 to $186,000 DOQ, with a comprehensive benefits package, including the opportunity to work a partially remote or hybrid schedule.
