Department Responsibilities: The Product Development (PD) department is responsible for developing solar mounting systems. This includes all steps of the product development cycle including UL certification. The Product Development Intern assists members of the PD department by completing a varied group of tasks but will focus on the electrical bonding and grounding of solar modules and mounting systems testing and quantifying bonding methods including the completion of an experimental bonding test setup. Experiences gained during internship will provide an understanding of the solar photovoltaic (PV) industry, applied Product Development engineering principles, considerations and processes, conflict resolution, and many other valuable skills.
Tasks for the Electrical Engineer Intern:
Review, test and rank solar PV bonding systems
Create and evaluate test methods for bonding connections
Engineering design evaluation of bonding connections including corrosion resistance
Apply engineering judgement to analysis to create recommendations for design decisions
Create documentation of tools, processes, and analysis for future reference by Unirac employees
Communicate with certification agencies (UL, PTL, CSA) to clarify design requirements
Perform test installations of new product application ideas
Assist with other duties required of the Product Development department
