The Senior Quality Engineer will plan and direct activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes. Responds to internal and external customer issues related to quality. Gathers, compiles, and analyzes quality data and develops improvement plans. Makes decisions related to part conformance, gauging, and quality plans. Conducts root cause analysis and determines and implements corrective and preventive actions. Champions key quality improvement projects identified by Quality Manager.
(30%) Oversees Process and Product Qualification Plans, including tool proofs, capability studies, control methods and FMEAs. Works with Engineering and Quality Engineers on control methods and FMEAs.
(20%) Leads internal quality audits to corporate quality standards (systems and compliance). Identifies, directs, and follows through on actions to close gaps.
(15%) Tracks quality data, including internal and external non-conformances, internal process capability, MRB, cost of quality, field failures reported by corporate quality members and internal audit results. Analyzes quality data, summarizes results, identifies activities for improvement, and drives those activities to completion.
(10%) Mentors/trains other engineers and manufacturing leads on SPC, root cause analysis techniques, and preventive actions. Takes the lead in oversight of quality investigations by other quality engineers
(5%) Owns key quality improvement projects – manages those projects through completion.
(5%) Participates in and leads Kaizen events aimed at improving quality of product.
(5%) Ensures quality of purchased materials and parts meets specification, including supplier audits and resolution of identified quality issues related to suppliers.
(5%) Disposes of non-conforming material and product, including recommendations for lowest cost options.
(5%) Uses customer feedback and internal quality data to revise control methods and FMEAs.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum 3 years work experience in a Quality role in manufacturing including knowledge of world class manufacturing techniques (process yield improvement, process control and monitoring, cost reduction, problem solving, six sigma, lean manufacturing).
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field (Engineering, Math, Material Science, Physics) or 7 years equivalent experience
ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt certification and Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
Demonstrated leadership ability – preferably within a manufacturing organization, or supporting function.
Must have in-depth knowledge of quality engineering tools, i.e. FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, Problem Solving Techniques, DOE, Acceptance Sampling, and MSA.
Experience in die casting, metal stamping, plating, or machining operations is a plus.
Must have in-depth knowledge and audit experience in Quality Systems such as IS0-9001.
Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Minitab.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Demonstrated success in driving significant quality improvement initiatives at former employers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convince all levels within an organization.
Ability to present clear, concise, and convincing presentations to all levels within an organization, including top executives.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, and graphs).
Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
English language is essential; competency in Spanish and/or Chinese is a plus.
