Assistant Professor - Civil Engineering

APPOINTMENT: August, 2021 RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in transportation and water resources; assess, evaluate and report on the achievement of EAC-ABET Student Learning Outcomes, Program Objectives and Curriculum; serve on school, college and university committees; maintain regular office hours; foster corporate and community alliances; assist in efforts to recruit and retain students; advise and mentor student organizations. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate from an institution with an EAC-ABET accredited Civil Engineering program; demonstrated expertise in transportation and water resources with ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in transportation, highway design, urban development, hydrology and hydraulics; distinguished record in teaching, scholarship and service with demonstrated interest in an area of research that aligns with the WIU School of Engineering; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with multiple constituencies and across diverse engineering disciplines. Must be a US Citizen or a permanent resident of the US. Must be able to pass a back-ground check and obtain a security clearance. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in EAC-ABET accreditation assessment, evaluation and reporting processes; Professional Engineering registration and experience relevant to the civil engineering disciplines included in the WIU Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree (Solid Mechanics, Geotechnical, Structures, Transportation, Fluid Mechanics and Water Resources); proficiency with engineering curriculum and course development; experience with student recruitment and retention; a record of involvement in professional societies and community relations; experience in other engineering disciplines such as water quality, welding, etc. For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body).
