Civil / Transportation CAD Drafter

Overview / Responsibilities*

Wood has a career opportunity for an experienced Civil / Transportation CAD Designer Technician to join our Chicago, Illinois team. The ideal candidate has sharp technical capabilities and a commitment to delivering a quality product. The position will be based in our Chicago, IL office located near O’Hare International Airport but will have the option to work from home during the remainder of the Covid protocols.

The candidate must be proficient in MicroStation and Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D and possess experience on civil infrastructure design projects to prepare construction drawings for the civil / transportation group. The candidate will be responsible for CAD plan production, working with an experienced group of Engineers and Technicians. The candidate must be able to clearly communicate with other members of the design team to ensure consistent and quality deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

• Support civil transportation projects including roadways and structures and civil / environmental site designs
• Ability to effectively develop and implement CAD standards and drafting uniformity. According to established standards and procedures have the ability to create detailed civil drawings, layouts and sketches using computer - aided design software including MicroStation first and foremost and AutoCAD
• Detail plan sheets for bridges, walls, culverts, and other drainage features for transportation projects and site civil drawings related to environmental remediation projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems with existing drawings and make corrections as requested by the engineer
• Design or redesign complex layouts and drawings from general written or verbal specifications from project team
• Work with project team to investigate and resolve problems with existing designs and make corrections to the drawings as requested by the senior staff
• Adhere to discipline - specific CAD standards

Skills / Qualifications*

• High school degree required
• 5 - 10 years + of experience preparing design drawings using MicroStation for DOT’s
• Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D related to civil or municipal projects a huge plus
• ILDOT and IL Tollway experience desired
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff in a team environment
• Ability to work efficiently and independently and demonstrate effective organizational skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to generate superior written work products
• Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
• Must pass drug test and background check
