Supports new product development activities in a Product Development / R&D environment by researching interactions of biological materials with engineered components and developing new components/assemblies, methods, and/or processes utilizing engineering principles to meet User and Stakeholder
Requirements while adhering to project objectives for quality, cost and delivery.
This role focuses on new product development in Biomedical and Medical areas, utilizing strong expertise in microfluidic applications.
Creates, maintains, and drives detailed project schedules across multiple disciplines. Leads projects and/or small teams.
Confers with division management, production, QA staff to determine and make recommendations regarding engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, reliability & manufacturability to new and existing products. Confers with research personnel and/or the customer to clarify or resolve problems of design.
Prepares proposals (including recommended suppliers, parts pricing, alternative implementation strategies, and timeline/schedule) for submission to customer. Provides guidance and answer technical questions during proposal meetings. Performs complex statistical analysis of data for complex processes and draw appropriate conclusions. Participates in market research activities.
Reviews technical reports prepared by less experienced Engineers and provide feedback. Mentors and trains less experienced Engineers. Writes/reviews procedures/policies.
Develops, designs and builds prototypes for design review; present prototype and testing procedures for review. Assist in schedule development; manage and prioritize action items to meet schedules.
Verifies designs through modeling. Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses. Utilizes statistical analysis to ensure process is capable. Conducts risk analysis. Assist with creating product specifications and requirements. Performs thorough experiments and evaluations to aid down-selection of concepts to achieve integrated concepts.
Performs root cause investigation into component, product or process failures; document investigation and present findings.
Researches and interacts with suppliers/vendors, requests quotes, and communicate any issues with orders as needed. Captures and creates Intellectual Property (IP) creating patentable ideas and working with attorneys or management to support/complete patent applications.
May travel to customer site to install, maintain, repair, and/or troubleshoot units.
May travel for design reviews, customer meetings, trade shows, or other field research.
May be assigned additional duties and/or special projects.
Bachelor’s degree in BioEngineering or BioMedical Engineering and 5-8 years’ experience in research and development, product development, medical or related field.
Excellent analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
Ability to create and present presentations and/or technical papers to management within and outside of Canon Virginia.
Ability to work independently and in a project team environment.
May have to work overtime and may be assigned to other shifts based on company needs.
