Principal Engineer - Traffic Operations Closing: 12/15/2019 The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. MTC's Design and Project Delivery (DPD) Section is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative transportation strategies that improves the performance of the region's freeway, bridge, arterial, and transit systems, with an emphasis on operational efficiencies and demand management/high vehicle occupancy strategies. Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, the Principal Engineer will lead and support a wide range of operational improvement projects in all phases, including traffic operation analyses, engineering studies, design alternative assessments, project development and implementation. This position will lead and work collaboratively with a team of planners and engineers within and external to MTC in accomplishing these goals. The individual will lead and manage projects/tasks that is generally traffic operations and technical in nature. The individual will perform a wide range of tasks requiring diligent attention to detail, advanced analytical skills, project management skills, and strong technical writing and speaking abilities, including:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An appropriate combination of education and experience that has provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is: Education: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university, in an appropriate field related to the area of assignment, such as transportation planning, project management, public finance, transportation engineering, economics, business or public administration. (Applicants with a degree issued from an institution outside the United States must have their transcripts evaluated by an academic accrediting service and provide proof of equivalency along with the application.) Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in an appropriate field related to the area of assignment. Preference will be given to applicants with more professional relevant work experience. A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and four years of relevant experience is an alternative qualification. License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternate transportation which is approved by the appointing authority. A professional civil or traffic engineer license is highly desired.
