Our Forest Protection team needs a Senior Pesticide Application Scientist
Lead research into the study of liquid sprays from aerial platforms
This is a full-time permanent role, based in Rotorua, New Zealand
Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based bio-economy. In this position you'll lead research into the application of liquid sprays or solid particles that supports key objectives including forest pesticide application, aerial spray modelling and droplet dispersion, pest eradication during bio-security incursions, and insect, disease and weed management.
What are we looking for?
A demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in spray applications or particle dispersion with a relevant PhD degree and at least 5 years experience (ideally a crop protection discipline but agricultural engineering will be considered).
You will have a sound knowledge of scientific method including experimental design, set-up and execution, as well as basic to intermediate skills for data analysis.
A working knowledge of a computer language and an aptitude for problem solving in electronics or developing new spray equipment would be desirable.
A solid publication record which demonstrates your ability to effectively write manuscripts for scientific publication as well excellent client reports for our industry stakeholders.
You will identify research priorities and translate your findings in a manner that enables early and high levels of uptake and supports our licence to operate goals.
Experience in leading a research team, ideally within in a crop protection or pest management research environment.

We are seeking someone who is bright and personable with the ability to forge relationships with forest growers and other key stakeholders. You will be passionate about your research with a drive to produce high quality science to grow your profile as a national and international specialist in pesticide application science.
